This year I got to tick a big one off my travel bucket list, Athens. After all, one can not do an Ancient History degree and not want to visit the home of democracy.
So we made a two day flying visit to see one of the oldest cities in Europe and let me tell you it did not disappoint.
The hotel of choice was the beautiful Grecotel Pallas Athena hotel, a boutique hotel with quirky rooms, a breakfast to die for and a lobby that you would want as a room in your future mansion.
This beautiful little hotel was the perfect location to explore this ancient city.
Our first stop, the Acropolis obviously.
We started early and trekked up to the Acropolis as soon it opened. If you are planning a visit I would recommend doing this as well, not least to avoid hiking in the midday sun in summer but to ensure that you at least get some photos without the other hundred tourists looking for the same shot as you, or head up there for sunset, the views are meant to be stunning.
The entire ancient citadel is incredible. The photos don’t quite do it justice – It really is something that you have to see for yourself to fully appreciate it but here is worth a try.
Odeon of Herodes Atticus
To be totally honest it is very hard to walk around here and not be in constant awe.
Even below the mount of the acropolis there is more to explore, trust me even if your not a history buff you will appreciate the beauty and grandeur of this place.
So go ahead, put the Acropolis of Athens on your bucket list.
